Alfajiri Foundation

At Alfajiri we are committed in the protection of biodiversity and strengthening livelihoods. We have partnered with organisations committed in the protection of Kenya’s
marine environment and preservation of primates, together with a local charity to safeguard children’s rights.

Each guest staying at Alfajiri contributes to the foundation by donating $10 per adult per night and $5 per teenager / child per night. This has been setup to annually support the Diani Turtle Watch, Reefolution, Germano Chincherini Foundation, and Colobus Trust. Guests are welcomed to make larger donations if they wish, as well as visit the organisations through their active programs.

Growing corals in structures that are called ‘Nurseries’. Once the coral fragments have grown large enough, they are outplanted onto bottle reefs or patches of degraded corals reefs. This will give natural reef-formation the kickstart it needs to recover.

Reefolution has been operating in collaboration with the Beach Management Unit of Mkwiro, the Pilli Pipa Diving Resort and FireFly Ocean Camp, together they have restored coral in an area of approximately one kilometer of coastline.
